Betty Jane King Cernuska, 93, of Vanderbilt, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, with her loving family at her side.

Known to her family as Nana, she was born November 3, 1931, a daughter of the late William and Clara King.

She graduated from Perry High School in 1949.

Betty was married to Andrew Cernuska in 1950 until his passing in 2019.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Andrew, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; and dear son-in-law, Mark Cunningham.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Ellen Buhler (Mark) of Uniontown, and Dorothy Durazio of California; her daughters, Andrea Holet (Kenneth) of Earlysville, Va., Judith Thorpe (Thomas) of Vanderbilt, and Pam Cunningham, also of Vanderbilt; her grandchildren, Dana Rohulich (Nate), Chris Holet, Jennifer Cunningham (Greg), Jessica Martin (Brandon), Mark Cunningham, Courtney Thorpe, Ashley Kochis (Rudy); eight great- grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends.

Betty was a personable woman who enjoyed talking to anyone with a listening ear. She loved telling stories of her childhood and those of her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. Betty brought much love and laughter into her home with her stories. She shared many stories of her childhood growing up in Pricedale with her siblings and of the many jobs she had through the years. The telling of her stories always made her happy. However, her true devotion and happiness came from time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing made her smile brighter or made her light up more. Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren were her true joy and love in life.

Betty’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Beechwood Court; to Pam, her hospice nurse; to Maggie, her aide; as well as Karen, Jen and Andrea, who provided at-home care for Betty.

Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at which time a funeral service will be held, Saturday, April 12, in the GATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 136 N. Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown.

Interment will follow at Bowman-Flatwoods Cemetery in Vanderbilt.
