Velma “Jean” Gmutza, 92, of Filbert, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born October 16, 1932, in Thompson, a daughter of the late George and Christina M. Burless Susa.

She was an avid Steelers’ fan. She loved to crochet, watch soap operas, garden and cook.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Footedale.

Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Steve W. “Feets” Gmutza; grandson, William A. Richards, Jr.; and brother, George E. “Jim” Susa.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Sandy (Jim) Edwards, Steve “Hep” (Mary) Gmutza, Christine (the late Jim) Ferranti, and Michaelene (Victor) McQuiston; 11 grandchildren, Cassie (Nathen) Myers, Ryan Edwards, Amanda Edwards, Timothy McDade, Brandon McDade, Stephen W. Gmutza, Kristen (James) Morgan, Noah Kushak, Adam (Fahtimae) Kushak, Mara Kushak, and Ariel “Poopie” Kushak; five great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Skye, Ares, Rowan, and Lainey; and sister, MaryAnn Arnold.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, PA 15468, where a Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Footedale. Interment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.
