Eugene Keith Darnell, Jr.

Dunbar
Eugene Keith “Hawkie” Darnell, Jr., 47, of Dunbar, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in WVU Uniontown Hospital.
He was born January 8, 1978, in Connellsville, a son of Kimberly A. Darnell and the late Eugene Keith Darnell, Sr.
For several years, Hawkie was employed through Npl Construction, and he was a contractor through Desoto Line Services through Columbia Gas and Force Environmental Solutions. Most recently he was employed as a truck driver through Holt & Bugbee. He was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America Local 1058.
If you knew him, Hawkie was obsessed with cleanliness, shoes, and nice clothes. He enjoyed going to the gym and working out, whether at the Fitness Center in Hopwood or Planet Fitness. He was an avid animal lover, and his family lovingly referred to him as the ‘animal whisperer’.
Hawkie was a wonderful father to his only son, Ethan, who he absolutely adored with his entire heart. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, son, brother, nephew and uncle, who had the biggest heart, who was so incredibly kind, and who would do anything for anyone.
Hawkie’s final act of kindness was to give the Gift of Life to others by donating his organs, having already saved and helped one individual and his gift is expected to help several others.
Hawkie is survived by his son, Ethan Darnell of Hopwood; his mother, Kimberly A. Darnell and Bruce Johnson of Dunbar; his sister, Elisha Darnell of New Eagle; nephews, Trey Darnell of Dunbar and Jais Darnell of New Eagle; aunts and uncles, Mary Pat Sines of Dunbar, whom he lived with, Sandy Cooper of Lemont Furnace, Tammy Crayton of Farmington, Larry and Betty Darnell of McClellandtown, and Donnie Quinlan of Dunbar; special friend and companion, Cassidy Dickey of College Park, Md.; special friends, Jeff Thomas of Brownsville, Erin Paul of Uniontown, and Kristy Unice of Uniontown; and numerous other family members and friends.
