Fairchance
Russell W. “Rusty” Smith, 77, a life-long resident of Fairchance, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, his Savior, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in Mt. St. Macrina Manor.
Preceding him in death were his father, Russell S. Smith and mother, Ruth Smith; and his loving wife, Sharon L. Smith.
Left to cherish his loving memories are his sons, Jeff Smith, and Christopher W. Smith and wife Tammy Intorre of Fairchance; his grandchildren, Megan Jo Smith (his princess) and fiance Caitlin Brumley of Fairchance, Brandon Smith (his boy) and fiancee Ashley McElroy of Fairchance, Hannah Smith and Nick Smith of Chalk Hill; his great- grandson, Greyson Smith (his pride and joy); and sisters, Patty Stillwagon and husband Don of Uniontown, Cathleen Smith and Janet Smith of Uniontown.
Rusty served in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1969 for the United States Air Force following the Air Force Reserves until 1971.
He was a dispatcher from home for the Fairchance Fire Department and EMS. He also read water meters for the Fairchance Borough until his retirement.
Rusty was a kind hearted, gentle and loving soul who would help his family out at any given time. They will all miss him dearly.
Arrangements are under the direction of the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME. His request was to be cremated, with no viewing. He will be laid to rest Saturday, May 10, with his loving wife, at Smithfield-Fairchance American Legion Post 278 Cemetery at Maple Grove, Dry Know Hill, Smithfield, with Military Rites accorded by General Marshall Amvets Post 103.
