Anti-Spam Issues

We use a variety of tools to limit the amount of junk mail you receive. Currently approximately 70% of all email arriving at our mail servers is identified as Spam and rejected completely. Of those a small number are valid messages improperly seen as Spam, known as “false positives”. We try to keep false positives to a minimum but spam filtering is an inexact and ever changing task so false positives can occur.

Message Blocking and Unblocking

If a message is blocked by the Anti-Spam filter, the PVI mail server tells the sender that the destination mailbox does not exist. The intent of this action is to make the spammer think the email address is invalid in the hopes that they will remove it from their list. For messages that are being blocked because of the message content, the simple solution is to add the sender’s address to your contact list using WorldClient web mail at mail.pviproductions.com. All addresses in your contact list are automatically exempt from the Spam content filter, a process known as “white listing”.

The easiest way to do this for Outlook users is with the ComAgent tool to automatically synchronize your Outlook and WorldClient address books. You may also manually add email addresses to the WorldClient contact list that you wish to add to your white list.

Checking Messages Flagged as Spam

Suspicious messages that the Spam filter doesn't block have the SPAM score added to their subject and are moved to a special Spam folder in your mailbox. You should log on to Web mail occasionally to check your Spam folder for any messages falsely identified as junk mail and delete unwanted email that can eventually cause your mailbox to fill up.

What to do in Case of Problems

If you believe you are missing messages because of the Spam filter, first check your Spam folder to see if the messages are there. If you can identify the email addresses that are being flagged or blocked, add them to your WorldClient contact list. If these steps fail to resolve the problem, contact PVI for assistance.
